In the age of AI and production perfection, authenticity and rawness means more.
Featuring a selection of 15 demos written and recorded between 2005 - 2007, most as part of Wonderwolf's (i.e. Gideon Kretschmer) writing process for A New Hope - a short-lived South African emo/alternative rock outfit he formed at the time with Matt Norman (bass) and Dane Woods (drums). The band played a number of shows around Cape Town during this period, but apart from releasing a rough studio recording and music video for "So Easy", never released any more music.
All the songs are super rough demos recorded and mixed in Gideon's original home studio back in Cape Town (with the exception of a few recorded live in the band's jam room) and the recording and song-writing quality varies quite a bit (Disclaimer!)
The songs reflect the humble start and origin story of Wonderwolf's journey as solo recording artist, engineer and producer. Most songs were recorded and mixed on the original PC-version of Logic Pro, and apart from the few live band sessions (which were recorded on a couple of room mics going into an old Roland VS-880 DAW), all the drums are rudimentary midi tracks through an early version of Reason (so definitely a long-way from current standards).
But production quality aside - the songs themselves hide a number of magic moments, and captures an important creative period for the artist. Therefore it's worth sharing rather than hiding them away in the archives forever.
